Sun Peaks, BC (May 1, 2024): Canada’s second largest ski area now has a new Executive team member and head of the marketing and communications team. Aaron Macdonald will assume the role of Chief Marketing & Communications Officer effective May 1, following a year as the Resort’s Director of Marketing.

“I’m delighted to share the news of Aaron’s promotion to the role of Chief Marketing & Communications Officer,” says Amy Blakeney, Chief Operating Officer for Sun Peaks Resort and the Sun Peaks Grand Hotel. “Aaron has spearheaded numerous initiatives and cultivated strong partnerships with key stakeholders. His unwavering commitment to excellence, coupled with his focus on collaboration and teamwork, makes him the perfect choice for this role.”

Macdonald’s career has spanned 32 years, from his early days as a liftie at Blackcomb Mountain to pivotal roles in the action sports industry in retail and brand development, and most recently, running a successful digital design agency for 13 years before joining the team at Sun Peaks Resort in 2023.

“My career in the action sports industry has profoundly shaped me, guided by some amazing mentors and through my own experiences of founding companies and embracing leadership roles,” says Macdonald. “I am particularly excited to collaborate with the incredible team at Sun Peaks Resort – a team overflowing with passion and dedication to providing the finest mountain resort experience. I’m inspired daily and look forward to working with each team member to innovate and propel Sun Peaks Resort towards a bright and successful future.”

Macdonald will be at the helm of marketing and communications strategies, tasked with driving innovation, enhancing brand recognition, and fostering meaningful connections with stakeholders. The marketing and communications team of nine will soon be embarking on a shared services model with the Sun Peaks Grand Hotel & Conference Centre, part of the company’s business portfolio in Sun Peaks. In the near term, they will be recruiting for two additional positions – Director of Marketing (shared services) and Marketing & Design Specialist (Sun Peaks Grand Hotel).
